The 48th winner of the 1000 Guineas, held on Thursday 2nd May 1861 over the Ditch Mile, was Nemesis (10/1), a bay filly by Newminster out of Varsoviana, owned by Mr G Fleming. The winner won by a length in 1 minute 50 secs, with a head back to the third. A field of 9 runners contested the race which was worth £2,300 (Equivalent to £257,600 in 2017)
